Faculty-led study abroad courses offer a unique way to explore a new country or city while completing your class. Experienced HRSM professors will guide you along custom-built trips designed to bring curriculum to life on a national and global scale.

However, they are representative of the typical variety of HRSM trips students can expect for regular spring and summer semesters.

SPRING BREAK

“Sport and Entertainment in Spain and Portugal” incorporates a Spring Break trip into the SPTE 570 spring semester curriculum. Students will visit and experience a number of prominent cities on the Iberian Peninsula. In addition, the trip will enable students to understand the relationship between sport and culture by attending a number of events and interacting with a variety of sport industry professionals. The itinerary offers stops in locations with a rich tradition in culinary specialties, world-class stadiums and internationally-famous cultural sites.

Trip Highlights Include:

  • City tours of Madrid, Porto, Salamanca and Lisbon
  • Tours of Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Las Ventas Bullring, Madrid Royal Palace, Estadio do Dragáo, FC Porto Museum, Benfica Museum, JAMOR National Stadium and Training Center, Palacio da Pena

Course Credit: 3 hours

Trip Fee Includes:
Hotel (double occupancy), transportation, all breakfasts and a group dinner, tickets to all games, events and group tours.

Trip Fee Does Not Include:
$150 study abroad program fee, tuition for SPTE 570, airfare.

Join us for an 8-day, 3-credit hour immersion in Luxury Management in Florence, Italy — epicenter of culture and birthplace to some of the world’s most prestigious brands. Take in the rich heritage and splendor of the iconic city that Michelangelo, Ferragamo, Pucci, and other notables called home, as you attend a Luxury Management short-course at Italy’s premier fashion school, Polimoda. Led by Retailing and Hospitality faculty from the University of South Carolina, this unique program provides a life changing international experience as you study, first-hand, the business of Luxury from a cross-disciplinary view.

In addition to the trip fee, you must register for RETL 592-02 or HRTM 590-03 for the Maymester/Summer 2020 Semester.

Hotel (eight nights, multiple occupancy), 20 hours of classroom instruction on site at Polimoda, in-country transportation, breakfast daily, two group meals including one at Castello Banfi and one at Cooking School Scuola di Cucina, entry to all venues and tours listed on final itinerary.

Trip Fee Does Not Include*:
Airfare to/from Florence, Italy; transportation to/from airport; course tuition*; mandatory insurance; Study Abroad processing fee; meals and excursions not listed on final itinerary; personal spending.

Photography and Sustainable Travel

Designed to promote the tourism experience of the Galápagos Islands (above and below the water) through the medium of photography. Students will learn basics of photography and photo editing as well as travel photography etiquette, such as how to approach people for photos. Students will leave the course with a sampling of photographs focused on travel, including landscapes and cityscapes, interiors/exteriors of religious buildings and other important historical/cultural sites, food and markets.

Sustainability, Eco-Tourism, and the Diving Industry

This course employs an experiential learning approach to provide students with an understanding of the business ingredients that comprise the scuba diving experience in the Galapagos Islands. This course introduces students to the Four Es: Education, Equipment, Environment, and Experiences that comprise the scuba diving industry. Throughout the course students will be provided opportunities to experience how the identified Es are delivered to consumers via various scuba diving industry segments: PADI dive centers, dive resort, and live-a-board dive boats.*

*Additional fees apply; Must be scuba certified prior to program start date.

Experience the best of Orlando while gaining "behind-the-scenes" exposure to the theme park and attractions industry.

Attractions include the Walt Disney World Theme Parks, Magic Kingdom "Keys to the Kingdom" behind the scenes tour, and Epcot Center. We will also visit Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Seaworld and Fun Spot.

Each park visit will include an educational component from tours to spending time with park management who will provide insights into the unique operation of each park.
