Emanuel Appointed Interim Dean of USC
Lancaster
USC Lancaster is pleased to announce that Mr. Lucius Stanley “Stan” Emanuel
has been appointed Interim Dean of USC Lancaster effective December
31, 2012. Mr. Emanuel’s appointment will bridge the temporary
gap of time between Dr. John Catalano’s retirement as Dean
on December 31, 2012 and the appointment of a new permanent Dean,
anticipated to be completed in the coming semester.
Emanuel joined USC Lancaster as an adjunct Business Instructor
in the Fall of 1995 and became a full-time Instructor in the Fall
of 2006. Prior to that he served as an adjunct Business Instructor
with Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, North Carolina
and Gaston College in Gastonia, North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor
of Science in Financial Management from Clemson University and
a Master of Business Administration from the University of South
Carolina. He is also a graduate of the South Carolina Bankers School
at the University of South Carolina. His experience includes twenty
three years in banking, working for First Union n/k/a Wells Fargo
Bank, The First Savings Bank n/k/a BB & T,
and First Palmetto Savings Bank. In addition, he has owned and
operated a small business consulting firm since 1995, Management
Advisory Services of Lancaster, Inc., working with companies in
both North and South Carolina. Dr. Michael Amiridis, Executive
Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, stated, “From
my observations of and conversations with Stan, I believe that
he is the right individual to lead the institution until a permanent
dean is appointed. His seventeen year association with USC Lancaster
gives him an informed understanding of how to continue to move
the institution forward and build on the progress made under Dean
Catalano.”
Emanuel was awarded the USC Lancaster Distinguished
Teaching award for academic year 2008-2009, has served on numerous
boards, and has been involved in many business and civic organizations.
His past and current involvement includes service as Chairman of
the Board and Treasurer of Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce,
Chairman of the Board and Treasurer of United Way of Lancaster,
Chairman of Junior Achievement Advisory Board of Lancaster County,
President and Secretary of The Lancaster Rotary Club, Treasurer
of CareNet, Chairman of the Board and Treasurer of Lancaster County
Partners for Youth Foundation, Treasurer of Communities in Schools
of Lancaster County, and Treasurer of Moriah Baptist Association.
John Catalano, Dean, stated, “Professor Emanuel
is a very good choice for interim Dean. He has
demonstrated a love for the campus, the community, and our students.
He is a great teacher and has
management and budget experience. He will use all these skills
to keep USCL moving forward as we search for
our next Dean.”
“USC Lancaster is a center of excellence in
teaching, scholarship and service within the USC System and
across the greater upstate of South Carolina, and the expectation
is that it will continue to emerge as a
premiere institution of higher learning in South Carolina under
Mr. Emanuel’s leadership over the next several
months,” Provost Amiridis said.
Emanuel, a native of Lancaster, is married to Julie and has two
daughters, Holly and Hillary. |
