THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. The last quarter of the twentieth century saw a revival of Catawba pottery and a growth in the market for these traditional ceramics; but in the period before this renaissance, pottery production fell into significant decline. The decline of textile jobs coincides with the Catawba’s cultural revival, which itself was due to changes in societal attitudes toward Native Americans and, eventually, the Catawba’s multi-million dollar settlement with the federal government.
