USC Lancaster Medford Poetry Contest

Update: 2006 Winners Announced

The Friends of the Medford Library is proud to announce the annual Medford Poetry Contest, which will offer a cash award of $500 to the University of South Carolina Lancaster student submitting the strongest poem.

Deadline for entries: 31 January 2006, 5:00 p.m.

Contest Guidelines:

  • The competition is open to any student currently enrolled at USC Lancaster.
  • All entries must be previously unpublished original work, and may not have won any other awards.
  • A student may submit up to three poems, but no more than 100 total lines of poetry. Please submit two copies of the manuscript.
  • No more than one poem should appear on a single page; poems longer than one page may continue onto additional sheets as necessary.
  • Poems must be typed on 8 1/2 x 11 inch white paper. Spacing and font are at the writer’s discretion, but font size should be twelve points. Clean photocopies will be accepted.
  • The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
  • The poems must be accompanied by a single cover sheet on which the following information is typed:

Author’s name
Address
Daytime telephone number
Social Security number
List of poem title(s)

No manuscripts will be returned; if you wish to be notified that your manuscript was received, please include a self-addressed stamped postcard.

The judge’s decision is final; we reserve the right not to award based on the judge’s recommendation. Winners are free to market poems elsewhere after the award is announced.
