What is AmeriCorps VISTA?

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program dedicated to ending poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and public agencies. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. With passion, commitment, and hard work, they create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

 

Position Description

To expand and enhance economic opportunity services provided to disadvantaged individuals in Lancaster, South Carolina.

·         Help create documents, policies, procedures, and evaluation tools for tracking program outcomes.

·         Cultivate relationships between employers, employees and community stakeholders to provide workforce development training and job placements to economically disadvantaged individuals.

·         Create client intake/screening procedures.

·         Create follow-up service plans.

·         Conduct research to identify best practices in homelessness/economic opportunity/financial stability sector and develop initiatives.

·         Develop tools for assessing gaps in services.

·         Develop database of workforce development providers.

·         Help coordinate events.

·         Help with fundraising and awareness for homelessness.
