Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; calibrate and use field equipment which requires steady hands; bend, climb, and stoop, in order to take samples and conduct inspections; lift up to 50 lbs; make visual observations of samples; work in all weather conditions (heat/direct sunlight); conduct quality inspections using a tablet; and conduct light paperwork. Must be able to follow operating procedures as well as complete assigned inspection routes on a daily basis.

Attention college and grad students: do you enjoy the arts? Are you considering a field in or related to arts-management and looking for hands-on experience? If this sounds like you or someone you know, apply for our 10 week summer internship. Weekly stipends are provided! The deadline to apply is March 15.

 

Internships at Blumenthal Performing Arts (BPA) are designed to offer hands-on and instructional learning experiences to college and graduate students considering careers within arts management-related fields. The number and types of internships vary during the course of BPA’s calendar year according to the needs and work flow of individual BPA departments. However, there are often internship opportunities available throughout the year.

 

Our standard internship is full-time (30+ hours per week) and requires a minimum commitment of ten weeks by intern candidates. Pending the needs of individual departments, flexibility in daily or weekly work scheduling may be required and some work in the evenings and weekends may be necessary. To assist full-time interns with living expenses, BPA provides a stipend of $250 per week.

 

Interns may be eligible for college credit upon completion of BPA’s internship program. Interns who intend to receive credit for their internship experience are responsible for meeting registration requirements of their respective colleges and for informing BPA’s Director of Education of necessary evaluation and/or other forms to be completed by appropriate BPA personnel.

Market Manager

Description:

The Market Manager is responsible for the on-site management of the operation of the WFM on Saturdays, year round, with some non-market hours required for market promotion, event planning, record keeping and other administrative duties. This is a part time position, 10 – 12 hours per week. The manager works under the direction of the WFM Board of Directors and serves as a liaison and representative for the market with vendors, consumers and the community.  A passion for local agriculture and food is essential for this position.

Job Responsibilities

Market Day Operations – includes opening and closing of the market, including set-up, vendor organization and support, signage, organize volunteers, manage planned event/activities, grounds maintenance, set-up manager’s information table, take down and lock up

Quality Assurance Activities – such as enforcing market rules and ensure compliance with food safety procedures as well as USDA, state and local regulations. Overseeing collection of customer data and feedback.

 

Promotional Activities – including maintenance and publishing of weekly newsletter, social media marketing, web site and community communication. Supporting the planning and managing of market day events.

Community liaison – Managing an information table, organizing market volunteers, responding to customer questions and concerns, share knowledge about agriculture, local food, local growers and sustainability

Vendor management activities – including processing vendor applications, vendor communication, compliance and participation, collection of fees

Growth and Development – attend Board meetings and assist in planning, record keeping and information gathering, creative thinking and problem solving

Rate of pay – $12-$15/hour depending on experience and skill level

 

Requirements:

The market manager will need the following:

 

An ability to work independently with strong leadership skills, including good communication skills and able to work effectively with a diverse group of people

 

Excellent organization skills with some knowledge of financial record keeping and budgeting is needed, as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Email. Newsletter writing experience and proficiency with social media is also needed.

 

Prior experience with Farmers’ Markets (or retail), marketing and event planning with knowledge about local agriculture, local food, and the local Waxhaw community

 

To be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and able to safely lift and carry 50 lbs. Must have a valid NC drivers’ license, an insured vehicle, computer, cell phone and internet access.
