Lancers Men and Women Fall to Queens

September 26, 2009

The USC Lancaster men’s and women’s tennis teams both lost Saturday afternoon to Queens University.  After a brief rain delay the teams were able to get on the courts for the match.  However, the conditions were not good and footing was a problem throughout the day.

The Lancers Defeat SMC 7-0

October 4, 2009

The women’s team defeated the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College 7-0 on Sunday afternoon in a fall scrimmage. The Lancers took a quick lead in the doubles winning 8-1 at number one doubles and 8-3 at number two doubles. The team kept the momentum and won all five singles matches in route to beating SMC for the first time in the program’s history.

“SMC has lost some players from last year, but it is still exciting for our team to beat them,” said Brian Clark. “Our players have been working hard and it is starting to show.”

Men’s Tennis Splits with SMC

October 4, 2009

The men’s team split with Spartanburg Methodist College on Sunday afternoon.  The Lancer’s Dylan Jicha is recovering from a broken bone in his foot and so he did not make the trip.  Both doubles matches were close with the Lancers’ Chris Harvey and JJ Ramsey winning 9-8 at number one doubles.  Logan Catoe and Henry Remache lost 8-4 at number two doubles.  The Lancers started the singles well with a victory at number one by Chris Harvey, 6-1, 6-1.  After Remache lost a close match 7-5, 7-5 at number two singles, Ramsey won a tough match at three singles 6-3, 7-6 (5).

“Our guys are gaining confidence with each match and our fitness is starting to make a difference,” said head coach Brian Clark.

Lancers Lose Close Match at Columbia College

October 1, 2009

The Lancers' women's tennis team lost a close match 4-3 Thursday afternoon against Columbia College.  On a beautiful fall day in Columbia, the Lancers' played their best fall match of the season.  The women competed at a high level and were clearly the more conditioned team, but it was not enough to beat the Koalas.  After splitting the doubles points, USCL won matches at number one and two singles.  Despite battling hard, the Lancers lost at number three, four, and five singles. 

“This is a great result for us and it tells our team that we are heading in the right direction.  I know the girls are looking forward to playing them in the spring”, said Head Coach Brian Clark.

The women will practice on Friday and then be back in action on Sunday, October 4th, at Spartanburg Methodist College.

Coker Fall Match Recap

September 5, 2009

The Lancer men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in their first fall scrimmage of the 2009-2010 campaign against Coker College.  The match took place on a warm and humid day at the University’s JP Richards tennis complex.  The Cobra’s of Coker College brought four men and seven women for the match.  The men split the doubles matches with USC-L’s Dylan Jicha and JJ Ramsey winning 8-0 at number two doubles.  In singles, the Lancers won three out of the four matches.  Chris Harvey, Henry Remache, and Ramsey all won in straight sets.  The women competed hard against the Cobras, but were unable to win a match.  Many of the matches were close with freshman Isabella Gabriel losing 10-8 in a third set match tiebreaker at number two singles.  Both teams will be back in action on September 26th when they travel to Charlotte to play Queens College at 11 a.m.
