DRYING POTTERY. “Well, I usually rub it and then I’ll set it up to dry. And it gets real dry. And then I take it and I usually heat my pottery in the oven; and then I put it in there and let it heat hot enough to get where I can’t put my hands on them. And then I take them outside and put them in a fire in a pit that I got dug special to put my pottery in, to burn my pots in. And then [I] put a lot of bark down underneath and lay the pots on top of that, and put the fire on it and put the wood on and burn them for two or three hours. Then I take them out; they are ready to bring in the house; they are ready to sell.” —Georgia Harris [image: Georgia Harris' oven]
